Introduced in the 30's, the Louis Vuitton Speedy was created as a smaller alternative to the Keepall for women who were increasingly on the go and needed a stylish yet practical handbag to carry their essentials. The style caught on rapidly after being carried by Audrey Hepburn in the 60's. Since then, countless celebrities, royalty, and fashionistas alike have been seen carrying this iconic style by LV.
Size Guide
The Louis Vuitton Speedy comes in multiple standard sizes with some variations seen in designer collaborations or limited runs.
The Bandoulière
In 2011 the classic Louis Vuitton Speedy was upgraded with a shoulder strap. The Speedy Bandoulière meaning 'Shoulder' in French differs from the original Speedy by having extra leather strips on the side with D rings for the strap to attach too.
MATERIALS
The Speedy was originally offered only in monogram printed coated canvas but has since been produced in multiple house prints such as Damier Ebene and Damier Azur. Louis Vuitton also offers leather versions of the Speedy in Epi leather and Empreinte leather. The hardware has remained consistently gold or silver while the handles and piping are crafted from leather.
LIMITED EDITIONS
With a style so iconic it's no surprise that the Speedy has had many special edition runs. Different prints and materials have been used throughout the years commemorating the brands history. There have also been quite a few collaborations with designers such as Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, Pharrell Williams, Richard Prince, Yayoi Kusama, and Jeff Koons that have brought their own unique style to the classic Speedy silhouette.
